The truth about root canal treatment saves deeply infected teeth painlessly!

At Favero Family Dental in Denton, we practice dentistry the way it should be. Dental care that is truly caring, honest, and does not cut corners on quality, supports a healthy and happy mouth. Our patients from across north and central Texas trust us. They are in good hands and keep up with the routine check-ups that prevent the need for restorative treatment, such as root canal therapy (RCT).

RCT to the rescue?

For most teeth, we will want to do everything in our power to keep them. As far as restorative materials have come, there is no lab-made tooth that is superior to healthy, natural teeth.

In the capable hands of our dentists, Drs. Stephen Blake Favero and Khourschid Favero, root canal treatment can “save” a severely infected tooth. Any time the innermost part of the tooth is damaged, RCT may be the only feasible option to preserve the tooth. Unlike what you may have heard, the treatment process is painless and straightforward. Think of it as a “deep cleaning” for the inside of your tooth.

One of our dentists will start by accessing the inside of the tooth through a small opening. This innermost pulp tissue is removed. Since the pulp contains the nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue responsible for pain sensation, RCT relieves debilitating symptoms. The “source” of the pain is gone. The tooth’s roots are often removed, too, to further prevent reinfection and support the treated tooth’s long-term health and strength.

Antibiotics may be prescribed to clear the infection. The tooth is sealed off using a gutta-percha material. Once the tooth is healed, it is important to place a dental restoration promptly. Failure to protect the treatment site adequately can threaten the tooth and shorten its lifespan. RCT failures, and the need for retreatment, can result from waiting too long to get a filling or dental crown placed.

The entire process is done after your mouth is precisely numbed. So you don’t have to worry about feeling anything uncomfortable! RCT resolves the pain of deep infections; it doesn’t cause it.

As long as you maintain good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, courtesy of your friends at Favero Family Dental, no further treatment is needed. You avoid the need for extraction and tooth replacement.

Call (940) 566-2847 before symptoms such as tooth sensitivity and swelling arise. Our team is proud to provide dentistry as it should be to individuals and their friends throughout the Denton, Argyle, and Sanger, TX area.
